The Fox Inn started life as three cottages. At that time the A1 was called The Great North Road and was just a mud track. It is rumoured that Dick Turpin stayed here on his way to York. It is also been said, one of the contestants of the first bare nuckle fight, stayed here at the Fox. It is not known how old The Fox is. It has grown over the years from three old cottages to a pub well known to the travelling public. It was shut down in 1996 for the road widening of the A1, but the government of the day changed their mind, and it was left to deteriorate.....
